We are going to France in June and only have a few days in Paris. I'm glad (if a little sad) to know that Shakespeare & Co. isn't the rambling haven I imagined. Might give it a miss unless we're already in the neighborhood. My shopping goals in Paris are yarn stores, Les Brodeuses Parisiennes, and Christmas ornaments from museum gift shops, lol!
It is a short walk from Notre Dame, so if the line’s not too long, pop in for a minute. I had a yarn store and needlework shop on my original shopping list, but I gave them up in some last minute culling when it became clear it would be impossible to do everything I wanted to do. My husband can entertain himself in a bookstore, but in a yarn store, no. That was the deciding factor. I hoped we might run into one somewhere, but we didn’t. I hope you will write about your trip! Thank you for commenting!
A very impressive itinerary Katy. Paris is so beautiful but it can be overwhelming when there is so much to pack in to a visit. And you have to be organized, I have found. We spent a week touring Normandy by car a couple of years ago and got to visit those beaches. I am heading to Paris on Thursday for three days. So far we have booked the Renoir exhibition. Notre Dame also has to be booked nearer the time. I have been to Paris many times so there are some things I don't need to see again. It's all about pacing yourself.
Our bus ride through Normandy made us want to travel in that area. We sat with a couple at a wedding last weekend who had taken a river cruise up the Seine from Paris through Normandy. Perhaps we will get back there one day! I hope you have a great trip! I look forward to reading about it! Thank you for commenting!
Returning from my Ukraine mission trip in 2004, we had an overnight in Paris. We dropped our bags at our hotel, raced back to CDG to pick up the metro that would take us to the tower. I guess I got lost in conversation as we made our way from the metro to the tower because all of the sudden, there we were and there it was! Brilliant and sparkling against the night sky…it was breathtaking. For a moment, I actually forgot how to breathe. Didn’t forget how to cry, though. Tears slipped freely down my face…overwhelmed by the emotions and physical drain of the completed mission work and the beauty of that moment. It’s as vivid after all this time as if it had been yesterday.
Surely I knew that?! If so, I had forgotten. Thank you for sharing! We had hoped to take an evening river cruise that would have enabled good views of the Eiffel Tower lit up, but that’s yet another thing we were not able to manage. I forgot about that. :(
We got engaged there! A freezing November night on the Eiffel Tower’s 2nd level (“deuxiéme étage, pilier est) almost 31 years ago, and we go back every few years. We were just reflecting that we are overdue for a return. Im so glad you had a good time.
My dear, delicate flower…there are FAR MORE significant details I would rather you remember about me than my boo-hoo reaction to seeing the Eiffel Tower.
Lovely to read this elegant round-up of some of the highlights of this beautiful city! I loved to Renoir exhibition recently at the Musée d'Orsay, but everything about that place is wonderful. Getting a taxi back to the hotel made all the difference at the end of a long, footsore day... and gazing out of the window at the elegant Boulevard St Germain made me determined to go back there as soon as possible. Ideally I would stay in an apartment there for a month at a time, and live like a Parisienne! Thank you for the mention of my Substack, so pleased you enjoyed The Tortoise and the Hare, more coming soon!
Thank you, Ann! And for your generosity in restacking! We have an acquaintance who periodically rents an apartment in Paris and stays for a month or so. It definitely sounds like the ideal! Looking forward to more on The Tortoise and the Hare!
I had the delight of visiting Paris with my mom and brother in 2019. So many of the places you visited, we also did; I felt nostalgia reading this. Thanks for sharing!

Wow! That’s wonderful Cheryl! Thank you for sharing! We’ve been married nearly 31 years too. :) August for us.
You have heard that story before…I promise you have. ❤️❤️
I figured! Sigh... I've been learning more about ADHD recently, and poor memory retrieval is a condition. That's my story, and I'm stickin to it!

Wonderful chronicle, Katy! I’m so glad your trip was satisfying. I know you were well planned before going. I like your travel tips.
We found that an early guided tour was helpful for later self tours in Niagara On the Lake, Canada.
Thank you, Rebekah! We have had great tours in the past. The one we had in London was especially good. I won't that mistake again, if I can help it.
I've never been to Paris! I hope I make it there someday. I'm glad you did!
I hope you do too, Claire! You will love it!
